Plasticizer is the largest additive variety in modern plastics industry, which plays a decisive role in promoting the development of plastics industry, especially polyvinyl chloride industry.
Phthalates, used as plasticizers, are generally referred to as esters of phthalic acid and 4~15 alcohols, all derived from petroleum. Phthalates (DOP) is the most important species. Add it to the polymer that needs to be plasticized (usually PVC soft products) to increase the plasticity of the polymer. Usually they do not react with polymers, and the interaction of polymers is mainly a deep bulge at elevated temperatures, with polymers forming a solid solution.
The popular point says that every item can mix with the resin evenly, mixing without chemical changes, but can reduce the glass temperature of the material and plastic molding process of melt viscosity, and itself remain unchanged, or although chemical changes but can be retained in the plastic products for a long time and can change the properties of the resin, A liquid organic compound or a low melting point solid having these properties, we call them plasticizer.

The main function of plasticizer is to weaken the secondary valence of polymer molecules, i.e., van der Waals force, which increases the mobility of polymer molecular chain, reducing the crystallization, increasing the plasticity of polymers, manifested as the hardness of polymers, modulus, softening temperature and embrittlement temperature decreased, while the elongation and flexibility increased.

Plasticizer in our life can be found everywhere, has a great role, but because of its environmental protection, now emerging a lot of green plasticizer such as chlorinated palm oil methyl ester to replace DOP.
